Jury Convicts Rosebud Man of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child and Abusive Sexual Contact with a Child

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Gilbert Oliver Crow Eagle, Jr., age 58, of Rosebud, was convicted two counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child and two counts of Abusive Sexual Contact with a Child as a result of a federal jury trial in Pierre, South Dakota. The charges carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both.

Crow Eagle was indicted by a federal grand jury for the charges on February 8, 2011. The convictions stem from incidents occurring between 1991 and 1999 in which Crow Eagle sexually assaulted two victims.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Tim Maher and Britt Haxton. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for May 14, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal.
